Life’s Many Turns

Things are good…and so I haven’t had a chance to write. Everyone is fine. Better than fine. I became a grandmother – sorry, I’m not allowed to post pictures. I’m in love; I’m in awe. Baby and new family are doing fine…grandmother’s a bit surprised that her kids are enjoying reminding her how old she is.

Elie is stressed with studies; he starts reserve duty in a couple of weeks – but it will be limited, thanks the army really understanding that he is committed to a course. Shmulik is beginning to think of what he wants to do and enjoying the wonderful first few weeks of his marriage. He’s out of the army in a few months…unless he decides to extend his service a bit. He isn’t sure. Chaim got out of the army…and is celebrating. He worked hard, served well, and is now vacationing with friends in a far off land. His mother, his real mother, should be so proud – her two sons have reached across the world, to put in action what others merely say.

At the dinner table the last few days, my daughter was telling me about how much a new baby can change the world. In a split second, my daughter became a mother, her husband became a father. My husband and I and my son-in-law’s parents became grandparents. My parents and my son-in-law’s grandmother became great-grandparents. Brothers became uncles; sisters became aunts.

We are exhausted – but for the best of all reasons. May our grandson be blessed with a long and healthy life and may his parents know the great and wonderful joys of seeing their son grow in love and happiness and safety.

There is nothing to match the feeling you get when you see your child’s first interactions with their own.
