Czech Republic - Anti-Semitic Attacks in 2008

This page is part of a section on "2008 List of Anti-Semitic Attacks" maintained by PaulaSays. This is only a partial list. If you know of an attack not reported on these pages, please send a note to .

  • March: The Federation of Jewish Communities in the Czech Republic has filed a legal complaint over Saturday's march of neo-Nazis in Plzen. The federation says the participants made Nazi salutes outside a local Jewish synagogue and chanted anti-Semitic slogans. The video recorded show that the extremists were shouting "Jews to gas."
  • July: During a Jewish culture festival in Czech town Holesov, someone distributed DVDs that looked very similar to the official DVD of the festival, but this one was full of antisemitic materials.
  • November: three skinheads attacked Rabbi Michael Yeruham, who has been living with his family in Prague for six years. Yeruham was attacked as he was leaving a restaurant, which he had to inspect as part of his office as chief of kashrut in the Czech capital's Jewish community. "They called out anti-Semitic insults and pushed me," he recounted. "One of them kicked me. I tried to defend myself; I was in the army and I still remember a bit of 'krav maga' [self defense techniques taught by the Israel Defense Forces]. Then I returned to the restaurant and called for help. Meanwhile they threw two stones; one of them hit my foot and the other hit the door of the restaurant. "We threw the stones back at them. They started to run but bumped into the Jewish community's security officers, who called the police. The men were arrested and confessed that they had come to hurt Jews."
  • November: Hate email was received in the Jewish museum in Prague. The authors blame the Jews for "holocaust of Arabs" and tell them to move to Israel, “which will stop to exist soon”. The authors say Israel is just continuance of Hitler´s Germany.

A site about Israel, being Jewish and living in a world where things aren't always bright and shiny, but where there is always hope that tomorrow will be better.

This site is dedicated to the people who inspire me to stop what I am doing and write.

To my husband, to my children. To my parents and sister and brother, and their families. To my brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law.

To the victims of terrorism over the last few years.

To the soldiers of Israel.

To mothers.

To the Jews who are no more, and to the Jews yet to be.

To those around the world who understand that the path to peace is not reached through violence, to my Arab friends and neighbors.

To my international friends and email pals...

in short, this site is dedicated to those who have touched my life, and in so doing, have brought forth my words.
